I'm curious about RIP options. Very highly regarded, and like other top RIPs, works on a PC. There is an OSX version in the works, they say. I have no personal experience with it, just have been keeping my eyes open. For your purposes, which I think includes mimicing SWOP for proofs as well as full gamut art prints, you need a good RIP. They are expensive and only a few are ported to the Mac. The options I'm aware of for Mac are from Best, Cadlink, and a small little known very quiet company that makes something called ArtPrint? ImageProof? KnockyoursoxoffbestImageeverPrint? Something like that. For Mac: Best- good reports for proofing but complaints of unusable manual therefore difficult setup. Cadlink- hardly any user reports, OS9 versions available, OSX in the works. ImagePrint- Great reports from photographers who just want great prints, more complex difficulties from more advanced users, klunky Mac version reports. For the PC there are more options. I think things will open up quickly now that OSX is working well, it seems RIPs have certain requirements previously best on PCs, but OSX solves that. They are all expensive and usually dongled.
