Good question. I'm not sure.

I'm thinking putting carts of MIS or other cleaning fluid in the printer
might not be a bad idea. (The MIS cleaning fluid is just its clear base --
no pigments or dye in it at all.)

The CIS lines might also dry out. Perhaps draining the lines would be a
good idea. Sealing the CIS cart in a zip lock bag might also help. Using
CISs that had sat idle is what killed my 1160 head. So I'd think hard about
how to stop that system from drying out and then throwing chunks of dry ink
into your head when you try to use it next time.

[Digital BW] Ergosoft RIP

2002-09-12 by Carolyn Frayn

Does anyone here have experience with the Ergosoft RIP. I'm seriously
considering purchasing the 7600. I'm curious about RIP options.

thanks,
Carolyn

I think the 1160 CIS system that I'm about to install will seat about 1 to 2
weeks between uses. Do you think that I can protect the printer during these
non-use periods by printing a nozzle check every evening (and running
cleaning cycles if the situation calls)?

Regards,
Loris.

Paul, thanks for the suggestions. The cleaning fluid sound good. I
may call MIS ans see what they might suggest.
thanks again

Carolyn,

I don't know about the Ergosoft but compare your findings to ImagePrint which
I believe is now shipping a driver for the 7600. Did you catch some posts on
Ergosoft on the 9000 list - I think from Robert Eversole, if I am not mistaken?
He would be the one to contact for this. Let us know, please! <s>

So,... 7600 eh? Tired of all the games, or what? <BG>

Very highly regarded, and like other top RIPs, works on a PC. There is
an OSX version in the works, they say. I have no personal experience
with it, just have been keeping my eyes open.
For your purposes, which I think includes mimicing SWOP for proofs as
well as full gamut art prints, you need a good RIP. They are expensive
and only a few are ported to the Mac.
The options I'm aware of for Mac are from Best, Cadlink, and a small
little known very quiet company that makes something called ArtPrint?
ImageProof? KnockyoursoxoffbestImageeverPrint? Something like that.

For Mac:
Best- good reports for proofing but complaints of unusable manual
therefore difficult setup. Cadlink- hardly any user reports, OS9
versions available, OSX in the works. ImagePrint- Great reports from
photographers who just want great prints, more complex difficulties
from more advanced users, klunky Mac version reports.
For the PC there are more options. I think things will open up quickly
now that OSX is working well, it seems RIPs have certain requirements
previously best on PCs, but OSX solves that.
They are all expensive and usually dongled.

Vinny,

Remove the CIS cartridges from the printer and plug the holes with rivets
from MIS or better the custom cartridge plugs from inkjetart
http://www.inkjetart.com/cis/Accessories.html and then wrap some electrical
tape around them and the cartridges to keep everything in place. Install
genuine Epson OEM cartridges in the printer do nozzle checks and nozzle
cleaning until you get good checks. Print out 2 or 3 purge pattern prints.
Turn it off.

When you get back get it running with the Epson carts and do a couple of
purge pages. Then reinstall the CIS.

I just took an Epson 785 that had been stored unused with the Epson carts in
it for 14 months. It took about 10 nozzle cleanings but it is up and
running. It probably would have come up faster if I had bought some new
Epson carts.

Martin, sounds good but what about the ink in the cis head. Is there
a way to clean it or should I just figure to buy another?

thank you, Helps to read the archives! (I know better) Lots of info... I
had heard of this RIP before thru a friend, and was curious. It's mentioned
on the Cone editions site BTW.

If I go this route, I certainly will.

nah, I like to play <g>...

Good thing to do.

Yes...
That's one area I wasn't aware of, my only experience to date is with
Pressready. Moving up to a new printer seems to warrant a proper RIP.

rings a bell....

Thanks for your information Tyler. For putting it together like that. I've
read bits and pieces on various lists and forums, hadn't thought to keep
track of it as thoughts of a larger printer weren't being considered at that
time. I'll watch the OSXjaguar developments.
