re boats: best described to me as a big hole in the sea into which you throw
money (bernard moitessier said they didn't just take all the money you had,
they took _everything_ you had). I've always wanted cameras (a big hole in
the page into which you throw money?) and boats... I guess there isn't
really a cure. Except poverty perhaps :)

I consider cameras, boats and horses in the same vein. I don't do boats
but have the other two vices. All excauses to spend lots of money and
derive a tremendious amount of frustration. But that one priceless shot
or one awesome race ( I do "ultramarathons -50 to 100 miles - on
horseback ) somehow make it all worthwhile. I guess there won't be much
left for my heirs - except maybe a few good horses, a lot of camera
equipment and a few good shots.
