Paul: The problem I see with your proposal is that it really depends on the settings used to scan the purge pattern especially the dark end. It makes a significant difference in the brightness/lightness along the 0-100% scale if the black patch is or is not set to 100% and the white patch (no ink patch) to 0%. Purge prints I've measured have a black patch value of about 82% unless I use the histogram to pull it to 100%. I'll be happy to send Martin a FS quad file if we can agree to the conditions.
