Piezo Inks

2002-09-15 by biw3450

Have resently purchased Piezotone WN ink set. Clean heads 20+ times
to clear Epson 1280 color inks. When I print head check the yellow
position is almost non-existent. Made about 10 large prints that look
good but wondering if I'm not missing some of the tonality because of
the very faint yellow position head.

The yellow ink position should be the lightest ink, and therefore
faint, but easily discernible. Also, you should not use the "head
clean" cycle to purge old ink. It is better to print images to clear
put the old ink. I belive inkjetmall.com has such an image for
download, as do inksupply.com and mediastreet.com.

Good luck.

RE: [Digital BW] Piezo Inks & Purge Patterns

2002-09-15 by Paul Roark

The yellow-position Piezo/FS ink is light. Maybe someone running Piezo or
FS could print a purge pattern to be put into the files section so that we'd
have a reference. While the ink is light, it should show up clearly when
printing a purge pattern.

(I prefer the old MIS purge patterns that contain a dark cyan bar. MIS
recently changed to a pattern that has a blue bar instead of the cyan bar.
This mixes cyan and magenta, which means that we cannot easily see if those
inks are installed correctly. I have the old ones, which should probably be
posted on the forum along with the patterns that result from the various
inks we use.)

Re: [Digital BW] Piezo Inks & Purge Patterns

Paul:

The problem I see with your proposal is that it really depends on the
settings used to scan the purge pattern especially the dark end. It
makes a significant difference in the brightness/lightness along the
0-100% scale if the black patch is or is not set to 100% and the
white patch (no ink patch) to 0%. Purge prints I've measured have a
black patch value of about 82% unless I use the histogram to pull it
to 100%. I'll be happy to send Martin a FS quad file if we can agree
to the conditions. I don't want to add to the confusion.

Re: Piezo Inks

2002-09-16 by Bill Iverson

I think there may be a dirty little story here to go with the "blues"
(on the seleniums) and the fading blacks, both of which I've
experienced. Using the prefilled carts for the 1280, with both the
PT Selenium and the PT Warm Neutrals (which I reluctantly got when
the Selenium cartridges proved hopeless), I've found that the very
light yellow print lines in a nozzle check become even lighter after
a few days (despite regular nozzle checks and at least a full pix
print at least every day), and the stepwedge goes from showing a
nice, linear progression of tone from 0 to 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 to
almost just plain no ink being laid dowm from 0 to 20, and then a
relatively normal wedge from 25 up.

Something is going on with the light ink in the "yellow" position, at
least for me.

Anyone else finding this?
