When it was finally done it was a very impressive feat in the world of track and field. And since it has been done many times over. Now, if someone runs a 4-minute mile, something once thought perhaps impossible, it is no longer earth-shattering nor even close to front-page news, even in a sports section. The analogy may be a stretch but my point is if something does become easier to do or can be done more quickly it often DOES matter to those who look at the feat and how impressed or respectful they are of this feat.
