2200 print speed

2002-09-21 by Antonis Ricos

What a difference a CPU makes!....

I usually assign an older computer as print server, and in the case of the 2200
I had it connected to a Mac with dual 601 chips - a perfectly capable machine
in other ways, just slow. It used to print from the 1160 very quickly, so I never
thought the CPU speed mattered.

When I hooked up the 2200, I resigned myself to those usual 15-20 minute
print times I had seen with the 1280, regardless of using firewire or USB.
Today I hooked the printer up to a G4/800 (firewire) and saw the real speed: A
37 MB RGB file going to a letter size print at 1440, High Speed = OFF, took a
mere 7 minutes from clicking "Print" to finish.

That's why this one has the firewire, I guess. Impressive!
