Martin: Would that it were true. I have the latest driver version for both 1270 and 3000. Neither has a two step alignment (with blocks.) Sounds like a winner but apparently it was only implemented on 1280 and later. The 3000 is still corduroy banding (even after the head transplants.) I've done the alignment (with a 15x loupe), varied the thickness lever, etc. The only thing I haven't tried is eye of newt or other incantations. S. Stan, This is the second half of the alignment procedure on the 1280 and I assume other printers. First step is the three rows of fine lines. Once you have that aligned to your satisfaction you continue on and in two printing steps the printer prints two rows of 9 - 1/4" squares. You are supposed to determine which is the least grainy in each row, enter the proper numbers and if they are not both #5 realign and print the two rows again. Very time consuming but it can help.
