I e-mailed Jon Cone last night with all of the information that had been reported on the list regarding the issues with the premature fading of the PiezoTone black ink. Jon responded right away and, in brief, there are two alternative black inks in development which he plans to make available in several weeks. Jon says the first black ink is a 100% carbon ink with higher Dmax and better fade resistance than the MIS-FSN black ink. The second black will be the carbon ink with a metal complex added to increase Dmax above the 100% carbon ink but not as high as the current PiezoTone black. This will be less fade resistant than the 100% carbon ink but more resistant than the current PiezoTone black. The current PiezoTone black ink will remain available for those who want the very highest Dmax. Jon feels that the problem with the current PiezoTone black is due to the use of software other than the Piezo driver. These new inks sound very interesting and I am sure Jon will make a more detailed product announcement when they are ready for sale.
