For the mac, calibrate your monitor at 1.8, but work in 2.2 for your grayspace. Ideally you want to tag the original scan with a 2.2 space. If you are scanning in RGB and then converting, scan in Adobe 98 (which is gamma 2.2) and then convert to grayscale. Likewise with a digital camera shoot in Adobe 98...or the native gamma 2.2 colorspace for your camera (e.g., Nikon Adobe 98). Make sure your colorspace for grayscale in photoshop is set for gamma 2.2...then it will automatically set gamma 2.2 when you do the rgb to grayscale conversion. The rgb workflows work best with gamma 2.2. I personally use Imageprint, which will technically work with any gamma that you tag to the file, because it is color managed, but I work in 2.2 and get perfect screen to print matching. For the piezo plugin you may have to then convert from gamma 2.2 to a custom dot density function to get final good matching.
