Just to add - the monitor gamma seems to rely on whether it is a Mac-badged
monitor or not. If it has the Apple logo on it it will be designed for a 1.8
gamma - if it is any other brand -r egardless of the platform it will be
designed for a 2.2 gamma but check your monitor manual. I've now seen three
Mac  systems with Sony monitors all on 2.2 gamma.
