Flashback to a few years ago, when I started messing around with photoshop..... I found it pretty hard to understand layers and masking......But the more you play with them, the more you'll understand them..... I will suggest to go to the library, read books like (don't buy them): Photoshop classroom in a book... Photoshop 6 bible... read the section on masking and layering.....if it is possible, do some projects on photoshop classroom in a book... Keep messing around with both features until you really understand what they are, and what they do... I would suggest another book...called" PHOTOSHOP MASTER CLASS" It's an awesome book...written by: John Paul Caponigro....a photographer and a photoshop Guru......buy it and digest it.... My 2 cents on photoshop 7...it has a feature that really important to image retouching...it's called "Healing brush tool" It's almost the same with "clone tool", but healing brush can make duplicate of the neighboring pixel more accurately...it also matches the tone and color....so the retouching would be even far more easier with this... Having 6.0 installed at the moment, but maybe upgrading to 7.0 if necessary. Thanks.
