I want the scanner software to do things like adjust the hardware for exposure and focus, etc. BUT I don't want it massaging my data in software (even though Ed's levels software seems better than the PShop defaults) -- it's like scanner profiling -- it's a nice idea, BUT if I'm correcting things in photoShop, I'd rather have control and work from the original data... Instead of taking a chance on having some lost in conversion. Heck, if I need the speed, I can create curves and batch process in PShop to the same effect..
