I'm also not Keith, but I can say that there is no need to remove 
the Epson software for my 2450 when I use Vuescan with it.

I am not Keith either, but I do use Vuescan and like it.   To 
use 
Vuescan with ,my Nikon Scanner you need to remove the Nikon software. 

I suspect that there is a similar conflict with other scanner 

software.
