Jerry,
I have a Microtek 2500,which I think is the same as the Duoscan.
I have only sampled Vuescan, but it seems to work well.  Try the 
following to get 2500 DPI: in the device tab go into the scan mode 
box.  Select Transparency X2  This will double the resolution and 
activate the 4" high resolution area.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
