For BW I got better, 'fatter' histos than with silverfast or the epson twain. For colour it varies greatly between scanner types I've found - sometimes generating weird casts. Just scan as a 16bit 'image' file at full optical res with the endpoints wide open if you are having problems with them. Adjust in PS so you have one pixel clipping at each end and then compare that scan with your fave method - as a raw scan mind you.
