Julian,

As a fellow 1680 user I would agree. However I have noticed one
significant difference when scanning at 1600 v 3200. It relates to post
processing the image in PS using unsharp mask sharpening. I find the
3200 image easier to sharpen without throwing the image over the edge.
Try sharpening an image at the two resolutions with the same unsharp
mask settings - the 3200 is far less 'twitchy'!

As Ed explained it - and I'm no expert on the math or mechanics - the
res of the 1680 is 1600x3200. A full optical resolution is 1600, but you
can go to 3200 and only have data interpolated in the X axis of the
scanner head travel. Again - I think... Suffice it to say that at prints
up to 12x12" I can't see any difference between 1600 and 3200.
