Julian, As a fellow 1680 user I would agree. However I have noticed one significant difference when scanning at 1600 v 3200. It relates to post processing the image in PS using unsharp mask sharpening. I find the 3200 image easier to sharpen without throwing the image over the edge. Try sharpening an image at the two resolutions with the same unsharp mask settings - the 3200 is far less 'twitchy'!
