I'm going to try to answer this without seeing your original posting: but I can guess you have bad nozzle checks... --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "steven0356 <stevenr@m...>" <stevenr@m...> wrote: > Hey Martin, > > I cleaned the bottom of the head with towels wet with Windex, which > seemed to work well. Thanks. I use this method only when I get ink blobs sputtering out on page AND I have not just installed a new MIS cart (which can also cause blobbing at first). Or when the nozzle lines are jumped up or down from their correct place, indicating deflection of nozzle due to debris under head. But not when nozzle lines are missing, except maybe as a secondary measure combined with another trick. > > > I am still not getting a good nozzle check. I have heard of soaking > the parking pad with Windex, Well, just 3-5 drops really. Personally, I use 40% ethanol to 60% distilled water. And this trick does work wonders, it should be tried first. and leaving it over night, but why should > I reinstall the Epson cartridges, and then run them through the nozzle > cleaning cycle? Because it works<g>. I've used it a lot, and so have others. Actually, I run a couple cleaning cycles, then print out purge patterns (see MIS site for these files) for awhile if the nozzle is starting to print. Unfortunately on your 1160, you don't have poppet valves on Epson carts which seal the ports, so you can't re-use a previously installed cart for best results, although I have done this. You would be better advised to buy NEW official Epson carts and run them for three days or so. Actually, I think it works because the glycols in the Epson dye ink dissolve any sludged up 3rd party ink in the 1160 head. Results are sometimes dramatic, other times it doesn't fully help. Will the epson inks help dissolve the clogged MIS > inks in the head? A good chance, but not guaranteed. Try to keep the humidity in your room above 40%RH. I don't know the upper limit to humidity, but I except greater than 50% is probably not desirable. Going below 35%RH you may find causes more clogs. I try to keep temperature below 77 degrees F too. And the other thing is to use the printer often. I used to turn my 1280 on every 12 hours as my climate here is terrible with clogging on these things. COnsider running a low res purge print maybe every three days or so.
