EPSON gave refunds on consumables (even used) and printers on the 1270
and siblings in part to avoid a very likely class action suit..
against both EPSON and the PPA (who endorsed the 1270 and 870 for
professional use)
In the US, a consumer sued when EPSON denied warranty service b/c they
used 3rd party inks.. EPSON lost...
The EU Parliament has this year passed and codified regulations
prohibiting the sale of printers engineered to prevent/prohibit the
reuse/recycling of cartridges and consumables (that one was aimed
directly at EPSON, Canon, HP, and Lexmark)
It's a start..
