Re: [Digital BW] Not all inks can be mixed, was Epson ink clears the clog

2003-01-16 by Kemal Delic

Gary,

I tried to print on transparency film with MIS WM-Sepia inks
on Epson 3000 printer. Up to 70% the printout is nice and sharp.
At 80% starts the blur, at 90% is the max. blur, the ink is
flowing, no dots at all, 95% is better and at 100% is perfect.
I think MIS FS-K has a different ink base and does not mix very
well with the rest of the inks. It is easy to recognize the
problem on glossy media. I hope our Paul Roark knows about this.

Best,
Kemal

After the printer had charged or primed the print head, I printed another nozzle check and it was perfect -- not a single gap! What an amazing transformation. I've made a half dozen prints since then and they look pretty good, though not as sharp as with the MIS FS black. Perhaps the Epson black ink, mixing on the page with the MIS FS grays, is somehow blurring things up a bit. I printed one particular image which has alot of very fine detail and the difference in sharpness between the print with all MIS FS inks and this mix of Epson black and MIS FS grays was quite noticeable. So, not a long term solution, but I'll keep it going for awhile, hoping to let that Epson ink work it's magic and really clean out the nozzles, and then replace all the cartridges with fresh MIS FS inks in a few!
