I'd like to add one small trick to what Gregory has posted below. 
Indeed it could be misfiring nozzles and I guess you might want to 
eliminate the possiblities there first.

On the Epson 3000, people had problem with banding caused by paper 
transport (Gregory mentions this). If the lines were dark the paper 
wouldn't be advancing enough and white banding indicated too much 
travel. So the trick that folks did was to print out a file of known 
size- say 9.75 inches or whatever...then measure the print afterward. 
If the print was more than 1/16 inch longer then often it correlated 
with white banding (print was traveling too far). If print was shy of 
file dimension within a 1/16, dark banding would occur. Then either a 
re-alignment can be done for paper thickness, or occasionally...back 
to Epson tech. Probably not as likely these days with improved 
transport such as the 1270 has, but worth a quick check.
