If you are serious about digital photography I would recommed you consider getting a copy of Photoshop. I'm not familiar enough with Thumbs Plus to give you a comparison, but I know it won't come near what PS can do. You may want to get a copy of Adobe Photoshop Master Class by Jean Paul Caponigro. It will give you a lot of insight as to why levels and curves controls are so important. I print B&W on an Epson 1280 with MIS VM inks on Somerset Photo Enhanced paper and the prints are amazing!
