Keith, I bought an NEC MultiSync 17" LCD1700M+ spring of 2002 for $699 less $50 rebate from Circuit City for use with a PC - I'm sure it is considerably cheaper now. I LOVE it. Ironically, space saving, not photography was why I purchased it to begin with. I've calibrated it with the Pantone ColorVision Spyder and am reproducing the art work of others for extra income. My customers are happy, I'm happy. What more can I say?
