No special hacking needed - after installing the 1290 "printer" (software/driver) go to the properties of the printer and under the Ports tab, select the port (e.g. LPT1) to which the printer is connected. This automatically sends 1290 print jobs to that port/printer. I haven't seen any improvements in results printing on the 1280 with a 1290 driver. I've used Paul Roark's 1290 curves on the 1280 and my wedges aren't any better (still get some lack of linearity in the 70- 85% area) than they were with the 1280 curves.
