I generally just use Kodak Elite film for this (I find it reasonably neutral
and forgiving), but set up studio strobes at 45degrees each side and have no
problem with colour cast. Otherwise, just use Agfa Scala B&W slide film (but
remember you have to send it out to one of the few labs the process it) -
should do a pretty good job. In that case I imagine you could use a couple
of high wattage household bulbs.

I used to do this with darkroom prints. Now, when I needs slides for a
professional competition (or Arts Council grant or such), I just print off
the images and copy. Actually, now I think about it, if you are printing
Quads, Scala may give you nicer blacks than the prints!

Yep - getting digital slides made may be convenient, but it's damned
expensive!
