Re: [Digital BW] Olympus E-10

2001-09-17 by Jerry Olson

I had an E	10. Sold it, because of the cons listed below.

Quality up to 8x10 is outstanding, easily as sharp as a scanned provia
ISO 100 slide. After that, quality falls off ever so slightly. For
closeups, Nature, pet, faces, etc., it can easily make a 12x18 print if
you upsize the file from 10.7 megs to about 22 or so in photoshop. There
is no grain at all, even at the large size.

Not sharp enough for landscapes at infinity for the 12x18 inch size.
Small detail just isn't there.

Things to be aware of:

No interchangeable lenses. Bummer Number 1. This is one of the main
reasons I sold mine.
Slight barrel Distortion at the widest angle position. Bummer number 1a.
(Not bad distortion, just barely noticeable.
Top shutter speed of 1/640th of a second, bummer Number 2. I was unaware
of this when I bought it. My fault.
You cannot see the monitor in daylight at all. Bummer Number 3

On the plus side,

VERY sharp lens.
Easy to use camera despite huge manual.
Loads pictures into computer very fast and very easy.

If the cons don't put you off, it seems to be an excellent camera, very
well made, and beautifully finished.
