Hi;
The fatal damage is physical, not electrical, and quite visible: 
When you take the unchipped cart out, the little posts that hold the 
chip snag the contact wires, and bend them so they no longer contact 
the chip properly. If your set of contact wires are straight and 
even, you,ve dodged the bullet. If they're only bent slightly, you 
may be able to bend them back into shape, with great care. If 
they're bent a lot, they will probably break (mine did) when you try 
to bend them. I believe there's a description in the file section 
for how to fix them  if they break.
