Epson cartridge chip-- Fatal Damager?

Epson cartridge chip-- Fatal Damager?

2003-02-12 by dilcher <dilcher@yahoo.com>

MIS web site says:

WARNING: DO NOT PUT A CARTRIDGE WITHOUT A CHIP
ON IT INTO THE PRINTER - IT WILL CAUSE FATAL
DAMAGE TO PRINTER !!!

I may have momentarily inserted a black cartridge without a chip into
my machine.

Can you tell me what kind of damage this would normally cause? I am
having some issues with the printer, and want to rule this out as a
possible source. When I did this, the "head" never moved toward the
right on the printer into the ready position, so maybe I averted the
"fatal damage" above.

If I am a victim, what symptoms should I have? :)

Hi;
The fatal damage is physical, not electrical, and quite visible:
When you take the unchipped cart out, the little posts that hold the
chip snag the contact wires, and bend them so they no longer contact
the chip properly. If your set of contact wires are straight and
even, you,ve dodged the bullet. If they're only bent slightly, you
may be able to bend them back into shape, with great care. If
they're bent a lot, they will probably break (mine did) when you try
to bend them. I believe there's a description in the file section
for how to fix them if they break.

Best Luck,
