As far as direction - the manufacturer's website should have the spec's but my guess is the 4800 is horizontal and the 1200 is vertical. The resolution is NOT a good predictor of dot size. Again this is a question you should easily be able to answer from the manufacturer's own spec's, but typically the drop size is a better predictor of dot size - FOR A GIVEN PAPER - and the trend is for smaller and smaller drop sizes as the technology has advanced. The s750 has a 5 picoliter drop size; the i950 has a 2 picoliter drop size, so the latter should give you a finer pattern.
