Been reading some posts about folks having trouble getting the RIP to
work right. I can't address installation problems, and I made a post
awhile back about tricking the RIP into doing something it wasn't
designed to do. But before you can do that the basic modes gotta be
working right. So here's a workflow I use to get basic modes working
using the RIP as its designed. I may be doing more than I need but at
least this workflow works. This flow assumes WIN98SE OS printing on
Epson Enhance Matte paper at 1440x720 dpi in greyscale:
From the START button select <settings>, <printers> and then right-
click on the icon for the RIP (lablelled "Epson StylusRIP 2200" on my
computer) and select <properties>. This should bring up the RIP
Properties dialog box. Settings for this box:
General: default settings
Details: default settings. In mine I have "StylusRIP: (EPSON
StylusRIP)" displayed in the Print to the following port box
and "EPSON StylusRIP 2200" in the Print using the following driver
box. I'm printing thru a USB 1.1 port using a 10' USB cable.
Color Management: Manual, defaulting to AdobeRGB1998
Paper: default settings (and common sense, set what you want)
Graphics: Resolution 1440x720, all other fields default settings
Fonts: default settings
Device Options:
paper: Enhanced Matte Paper
ink: color
high speed: off
CMYK simulation: SWOP
RGB simulation: Adobe RGB
Greyscale control: image (this is important, select "text"
or "off" and you get a mess)
Auto cut: off
Borderless: off
Installable options: Matte BK + Light BK
All other settings for the properties dialog box left at default
settings
Click <apply>, <ok>
Open Photoshop and your image in the appropriate greyscale profile
for your system.
Open the RIP and select <edit>, <color manager> and use these
settings:
CMYK boxes: default settings
RGB: Adobe RGB
Icc Profile: browse (the "+" key) to enter the profile you use
to print EEM at 1440 dpi on the 2200
Media: Enhanced Matte Paper_1440x720
Icc Profile: CPS SP2200 MCMP (this field defaults to the profile
associated with the media selected in the previous step)
Calibration: -blank-
Paper Configuration: Color density 100%
click <ok>
In Photoshop select <file>, <print with preview>, <color management>
Your source space should indicate the appropriate greyscale profile
for your system (Grey Gamma 2.2 for me, a PC guy)
For the print space select:
Profile: Adobe RGB (1998)
Intent: Relative Colorimetric
Use black point compensation: checked on
Click the <print> button and then select the RIP as your printer
(mine's labelled "Epson SylusRIP 2200") and then select <properties>
and use the following settings:
Paper: common sense, select what applies. If you need to specify a
custom size of paper scroll over to one of the "custom" icons then
select the <custom> button to allow you to input your desired
dimensions.
Graphics: Resolution 1440x720, all other boxes to default settings
Device Options should have defaulted to the following:
Media: Enhanced Matte Paper_1440x720
Ink: color
High speed: off
CMYK simulation: SWOP
RGB simultation: RGB
Greyscale control: image
Auto cut: off
Borderless: off
PostScript: default settings
Watermark: default settings
Click <apply>, <ok> which should bring you to the Print dialog box
Click <print> and you're on your way
Hope this helps and good luck.Message
