Digital BW, The Print

I actually haven't used my 740 with FS Inks in a while since I was 
have quite a bit of trouble with air in the nozzles.  However, I've 
had very nice contrasty prints with the curves I made for the 740, 
using the procedure as described.  I do have to say that the curves 
only deal with the "translation" to the grayscale, so if the initial 
image does not have reasonable contrast, the the printout after the 
curve will not either.  One method that i've used frequently is a 
relatively unknown method of increasing local contrast: apply an 
unsharp mask with an "amount" of 10-20% and a radius of 40-70.  It's 
typically quite a dramatic improvement in local edge contrast 
without any visible artifacts.

Also make sure you are in AdobeRGB colorspace; the space definitely 
makes a difference with the curves.

Finally, if you want a demonstration of the effectiveness of the 
curves, download a step-wedge, apply the curve, and print it out.  
If you don't see distinct transitions and real white and full black, 
then something is wrong in the procedure.
