I am sure that is the correct "hardware resolution" but that is not the same
as real usable optical resolution. Optical resolution can be determined by
scanning a resolution target and observing how many lines per inch, lpi, can
be clearly seen in the scan. From this you can calculate the optical
resolution which is all that matters for our purposes.

Since the optical resolution is a combination of the "hardware resolution",
optical path of the scanner and the electronics it will be something less
than the "hardware resolution".  However, I would hope that the results of
the 3200 would be better than the 2450, but I would not be surprised if the
improvement is less than the increase in "hardware resolution" suggests.

Since there is so much interest in these scanners, I hope someone with a
resolution target and access to the scanners will check the two out
sometime.
