The other alternative is to look at messages via the archive on the 
website.  I find messages are posted very quickly, instantly at 
times, and I can review them at my leisure.  You only need to log in 
when you want to post or look at files.  The website is set up nicely 
with the four or five most recent posts visable and the rest easily 
available.  Just go the to current month and then click on last.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
