Re: [Digital BW] Re: Sorry If This Has Been Beat On Already...

Look, I'm new to the list and new to digital. I used
to have an enlarger and do black and white, but that
fell by the way side. I've still got my Canon slr's,
but wanted a digital for snapshots and thought a 3.2
mp camera would be enough--the S230--and it is enough,
for snapshots. But it's nothing when you were used to
Kodachrome 25 and Panatomic-X and that slow speed
Ilford, whatever the name of it. Now I know that 6 mp
is not enough either, and 12 is probably not enough.

Anyway, I'd like to get back into black and white, but
not on the same level some of you guys are. I'm an
amateur--I used to sell some stuff, but I doubt I do
it again.

Maybe 5,000 dpi film scanners will come down in price
soon. That seems to be the way to go.

Anyway, it really looks like Epson has screwed us by
pulling the 1160 from the United States. Things would
be clear if that hadn't happened. Looks like the 1280
might be the way to go? Thing is, b&w on the printer
I've got now--an HP5550 is not really bad. There is
some coloration, but I'm not sure this can't be
straightened out to a large extent in PS.

It's good to see there are people who are into this,
because that means companies will put out products.
But Joe Cone's stuff--man, like, he wants an arm and a
leg for it. I'm not going to be hanging stuff up in
museums. If I had anything that good, I could maybe
pay one of you guys to do the printing.

Any comments very much appreciated.
