I do have a copy of the service manual.
it shows how to check the P_THICK sensor to see if it is reading 
thickness properly (p. 215), but it does not explain how to adjust 
it, unless i am not understanding the manual correctly.

Wondering if anyone has ever attempted to adjust or replace this 
sensor.

gunk on it or  knocked off . The manual details how to check for 
that.
