RE: [Digital BW] New MIS black clogs

2003-05-03 by Paul Roark

Steve,

Does the new black ink have the "solvent" smell of the old VM/FS black? If
not, then it could be the new Eboni ink. MIS is eager to get rid of the old
VM/FS ink due to its co-solvent base that is often said to cause more
clogging.

I've been using Eboni for some time now with no problems, but some have
reported clogging issues. Some of the problems have been due to faulty
carts, others have related to the new ink's apparent sensitivity to
pollution by residual dye ink. I have not seen enough reports to know what
other patterns of problems may exist. I'm about to load another cart of
Eboni now that is from a different/new batch of ink. Hopefully there are
not inconsistencies among ink batches.

Subject: [Digital BW] New MIS black clogs

I have been printing with a 1200 and the MIS VM inks since early
October without a problem. However, after putting in a new black
cart (I use prefilled carts)I have consistent clogs in the black ink
when I first turn on the printer. Up to now, they disappear with a
one or two cleaning cycles, but I concerned that the problem is going
to get worse over time. Furthermore, cleaning uses ink.

I recall some discussion of a new MIS black on the list which I did
not follow as closely. Is MIS using the new black in all of its
inksets? If so, this is a bummer. Is anyone else running into this
problem? Again, the only change is a new cartridge.

Would switching to the Gen 4 (?) black slove the problem? Any advice
appreciated. The only clog is in the black position -- the other
nozzel tests are consistently perfect.

Steve
