A couple of things that may be relevant.

A while back I noticed that prefilled MIS carts that came with loose shrink-wrapping 
were very "at-risk" for clogs, versus those with tight shrink-wrap (which very rarely 
clogged). Now, if one comes with a loose wrapping, I send it back to MIS for 
replacement. 

So far, I've only been using the co-solvent K carts. After getting an order of K carts 
right around the time when MIS announced the switchover to Eboni K, I called to 
ask if the carts I'd received were Eboni. They said they didn't know, because there  
were still many co-solvent carts on their shelves, and the labels on the boxes don't 
differentiate. Later I found out that they can, if necessary, call the ink-maker and 
find out whether a given Lot # is Eboni or not, which they did. By that time, with the 
concerns about Eboni surfacing, I wanted to stay with the co-solvent K until I finished 
a printing project -- and MIS was able to supply me with co-solvent K carts -- I don't 
know if they also had Eboni ones on hand for the printer I was using.

  to do with Eboni.  It is strange though as I (knock wood) have not 
  had problems to this point.  

  I do remember the smell of the older inks when I installed them.  
  However I switched both black and the color carts at the same time, 
  so hard to tell what I smelled.
