Digital BW, The Print

This recipe for ant poison which uses boric acid, sugar and water can be
harmful to children and pets, so use caution in its use!

Boric acid powder can be found at most pharmacies. Mix one teaspoon boric
acid with 3/4 cup water and 1/4 cup of sugar. Boil the mixture and stir it
until all of the granules are dissolved.

Use shallow containers or lids (like the lids from plastic milk gallons) and
place the liquid near the marching ant columns. The ants consume the liquid,
and later during digestion it crystallizes and ruptures the ant stomachs.
The poison continues to work on the other ants who eat the newly dead ones.
Eventually it will destroy the entire colony.  I can't say for sure if your
species of ant will prefer this concoction over the taste of the ink, but
it's worth a shot. This home-made stuff is certainly a lot less toxic than
the over-the-counter ant poisons.  -BK
