I have printed the UT inks (actually my UC VM 4.3 mix) on a variety of RC papers using the 1160 and the standard old curves. The only curve that seemed very far off was the warm curve. I did notice that the RC papers show all the defects more than matte papers. This will be true with any system. I was amazed the prints were close at all. After all, matte and RC papers would seem to be different ends of the spectrum. Frankly, these curves are "canned" profiles. For really outstanding output on any paper-printer combination, tweaking the curves should be considered normal. If you want the best prints, learn how to tune your system. This is true no matter what RIP or system you're using. >...I hear there is a general >consensus that the MIS Ultra Tone Inks are just not up to >the job of printing on glossy and the release of the >Ultra Tone Inks was premature. But MIS does state the >inks are in an experimental stage. Of course, I disagree with this statement. For state-of-the-art longevity in B&W inkjet output, the PiezoTones and UT inks are it. UltraChromes are there if you use a good RIP and don't mind some dots in the highlights. If you want this output on RC papers, UT and UC are it. If you want this without dots, UT is the one. It is a new inkset and surprises do happen. However, aside from a mixing error in an early batch and the sensitivity to dye inks that MIS has found, I'm just not aware of any pattern of problems. I consider the UT inkset a major step forward. Expecting canned curves that were written for a different inkset and EAM paper to work perfectly on all RC papers with the UT inkset, however, may be a stretch. I'll send you my set of 1270 curves and information sheet. Perhaps you can send back some scans of the 21-step test file.
