Assuming the image was professionally exposed and artistically composed, is it possible to produce a print using these workflow 1)DSLR -> Photoshop -> InkJet or 2)SLR -> Scanner -> Photoshop -> InkJet which can rival or come close to the prints of the old B+W masters (like Ansel Adams, Ed Weston)? As you can tell, either route requires the monitor to display all the possible shades of gray faithfully; otherwise, I would not be able to dodge/burn and fine tune the image accurately for the printer. For route (1), there's also the question about whether the CCD/CMOS can pick up these shades accurately. If this is already discussed, please point me to the thread(s) or books . Thanks!
