[Digital BW] Re: Stupid newbie questions/old cars vs ink printing

2003-05-15 by Clayton Jones

Hello Peter and Capp,

Great thread, guys. Just a few quibbles:

>stuff just like ham radio operators...still like to score QSL's from
>all continents with a 10W QRP rig on 20M with a 3 element Yagi.

Technically, QRP means 5 watts or less. You're right, the QRP guys do
tend to be tinkerers, competing to build the smallest transmitter,
such as will fit in a 35mm film can, etc. The really dedicated ones
do it with .1 watt.

>That's YoGi- Not Yagi!

Sorry, but it IS Yagi. He was one of two Japanese engineers who
figured out the formulas for multi-element parasitic array antennas.
The other man's name was Uda. The antenna books sometimes refer to
these as Yagi-Uda antennas, but most hams just say "Yagi".

Regards,
Clayton (WV4H)
