Digital BW, The Print

Wow, I can't beieve Jerry is gone! I think he more than anybody inspired me
to demand and expect a lot from digital output. I found the Epson-Leben list
with a hope digital BW would be worth playing with and found Jerry was
already making and exhibiting high quality digital work. It gave me hope.
Before embarking on my first ink/workflow combo I asked Jerry to send me a
small print so I could see what to expect. He sent me four 8.5x11 signed
exhibition quality prints. So when Jerry proclaimed "the inks are too warm
and the blacks are not black enough" I thought "goddamn it, somebody give
Jerry the bloody inks he needs!"

Over time I tried a lot of the things I knew Jerry liked. They weren't
always right for me, but I have a few Olsons and whatever Jerry used it sure
did work for him.

He could be stubborn, he could be combative, but he was always humble,
always sincere, and always about making great prints, which as often as not,
he'd give away for free.

Jerry was a great guy, a wimsical and imaginative photographer, a superb
printer, and an awesome list member. I miss him already.
