I would recommend you have a look at the Analyser Pro from R H Designs
(www.rhdesigns.co.uk) - you wire the safelight through the metre which
extinguishes the light during measurement and exposure. Has a good yellow
illumination (dimmable) and a greyscale reading of each measurement. If you
don't ant the built-in f-stop timer RH does a battery powered meter only for
less money.

Neither could be called inexpensive until you take in to account all the
paper you waste making unnecessary test strips without one!
