Sorry for this late reply, but this message slipped through my eyeball
scan. What you say about The Gimp not being able to access the
quadtone driver is true.

There are however three other ways of printing outside of The Gimp
(the case in the following program names is not the actual, but you
should be able to find them):

-  xpp
-  gtklp
-  qtcups

Try them all and select your favourite. All three work for me under
Debian 3.0 (woody) and Gimp-print 4.2.4 and Cups 1.1.18 .
