John, the quickest answer is to take a look at the service manual for a more complete understanding of alignment. Epson doesn't endorse access to manuals for mere mortals, but thankfully someone has made them available: http://www.visual-artists.com/manuals.htm My understanding is that you use (cheap) EAM in rolls, align per instructions, then create a setting in memory for your particular paper if it exceeds the limits of auto-detectable thickness. But it's been a year since I played with alignment on my 7000, so you are best to read the manual.
