RE: [Digital BW] I hated my CFS system, but....

2003-06-11 by Daniel Staver

There are no virgin carts yet, but MIS are expected to release some
soon... Meanwhile I've rinsed old cartridges with tap water. When I
bought my 2100 last year I saved all my old cartridges in case I would
ever need them for something. Turns out I did.

It's not as difficult as it sounds. You basically make a hole in the
cartridge, glue a tube to the hole, make a vacuum with a syringe and let
the vacuum pull in ink from another syringe. After a little practice it
will only take you a couple of minutes to refill a cartridge. You can
get everything you need from MIS at http://www.inksupply.com. I
reccommend the Virgin Vacuum Fill Kit, some syringes and ribbon tubing.
And of course you need inks...

I use the Ultratone BW inkset and the MIS 7600 Archival Inkset. Beware
that I've been unsuccessful in getting these inksets to work on glossy
papers so far. They're supposed to be compatible, but I get excessive
mottling and roller marks from the exit rollers. On matte papers I have
no such problems and both inksets work fine. I don't yet know if these
problems are with the inks themselves or my refilling procedures.
