Stephen: Yes you can disregard the clipping during profile creation. However clipping in a "real" image after profile application will be part of your saved image. You can experiment with various color tab settings during profile creation to confirm. Create the profile and then open it in a profile viewer, you should see that the white point, RGB primaries and RGB gammas are the same regardless of the color tab settings.
