I have Bruce's book, I have read it, and it is very good and I learned a lot from it. But there is considerable disagreement among photographers over whether profiling of an input device (camera, scanner) is necessary. If profiling your scanner helps you get repeatable results, then you should do it. I haven't found it necessary. For me, it has been sufficient to profile my monitor and printers.
