Bob, >Does your statement -- "However, most of the image improvement that >has been noted with the 1160 and its new curves is due to my having learned >a lot about curves in the last 2 years. The old curves worked about as well >for UT inkset as they did with the vm inkset." -- imply that the ultratone >curves for the 1160 would give better results than the old 1160 VM >curves when using VM ink? Probably not. The highlights will be smoother. However, there are some absorption differences that may make the ramp with the old vm inks less smooth. >Further questions -- is the black ink the only one that is necessary >to change to get rid of the problems with semi-gloss paper? Yes. Just stick in a "Photo black" (like I just did this morning). > If so, is it reasonable to just swap out the black cartridge when printing >on semi-gloss? Yes. > How many purge pages does it take to clear? I am assuming the >cartridges self seal -- is this right? I just put in a fresh/new cart, and it took no cleaning. However, when I put in a half used cart, there is typically some air that gets in the line. I think 3 cleaning cycles is typically what it takes, but I've never paid that much attention. Printing purge pages is too slow for an impatient person like me. Paul http://www.PaulRoark.com
