Does anyone know if there are curves available or planned for the new Ultratone inks and an Epson 1200? Steve

Steve,
The Ultra Tone inkset has the same densities as the MIS VM inkset, so the
existing curves should work fairly well. I designed the UT inkset so that
it gave me a neutral ("selenium") tone with the old 1160 "nc" curves.
That said, all inks absorb with slightly different characteristics, so
optimized curves may be better. However, most of the image improvement that
has been noted with the 1160 and its new curves is due to my having learned
a lot about curves in the last 2 years. The old curves worked about as well
for UT inkset as they did with the vm inkset.

Paul, Does your statement -- "However, most of the image improvement that has been noted with the 1160 and its new curves is due to my having learned a lot about curves in the last 2 years. The old curves worked about as well for UT inkset as they did with the vm inkset." -- imply that the ultratone curves for the 1160 would give better results than the old 1160 VM curves when using VM ink? Further questions -- is the black ink the only one that is necessary to change to get rid of the problems with semi-gloss paper? If so, is it reasonable to just swap out the black cartridge when printing on semi-gloss? How many purge pages does it take to clear? I am assuming the cartridges self seal -- is this right? You will have to get some rivets from MIS, or one of the other plugs available for the exit ports on the carts. -BK

Probably not. The highlights will be smoother. However, there are some absorption differences that may make the ramp with the old vm inks less smooth. >Further questions -- is the black ink the only one that is necessary >to change to get rid of the problems with semi-gloss paper? Yes. Just stick in a "Photo black" (like I just did this morning). > If so, is it reasonable to just swap out the black cartridge when printing >on semi-gloss? Yes. > How many purge pages does it take to clear? I am assuming the >cartridges self seal -- is this right? I just put in a fresh/new cart, and it took no cleaning. However, when I put in a half used cart, there is typically some air that gets in the line. I think 3 cleaning cycles is typically what it takes, but I've never paid that much attention. Printing purge pages is too slow for an impatient person like me. Paul http://www.PaulRoark.com

They leak very little. Paul http://www.PaulRoark.com

Anyone try using both the Eboni and Photo blacks in CFS's and swapping them out when going from matte to glossy? Seems like tape would work here. My only concern would be with clogging in the line if either black were left idle for too long.
